Brandon Grieves, Band Director

Grant Brandon Grieves, born March 13, 1982, grew up in the small town of Portland, TN, which is about five minutes from Kentucky. In the year 2000, he graduated Cum Laude from Portland High School receiving many awards and honors in band. Mr. Grieves was also the drum major for his high school band.
Brandon graduated Cum Laude with an Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Cumberland University in 2005. He studied Euphonium and Arranging/Transcribing under Joe Murphy, a world renown Tuba Player and an accomplished composer and arranger. While attending, Grieves worked with many high school marching bands gaining experience on the field. After his graduation, he went on tour as the contra tech for the well established Division I Drum and Bugle Corp , Spirit of JSU.
2009 marks his fourth year teaching at Giles County High School and his fifth year as a music educator. In 2005, he taught K-8 General Music and Middle School Band at Hillsboro Elementary Middle School in Leiper's Fork, TN. While there, Mr. Grieves recruited the largest number of band students in that school's history.
He recently married Pulaski native and GCHS Band of Gold Alumnae, Erica Britton. Also, he will be a father later in 2009 to a girl, Olivia Cadence.

Jason Gospodarek, Assistant Director, 2002 - 2006; Director, 2006 - 2009

Jason Gospodarek enlisted in the United States Army (from his hometown of Franklin, TN) as a tuba player in 1993. Upon completion of basic combat training and graduating (with academic honors) from the Armed Forces School of Music, he was stationed at the band of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, KY. While serving there (1994-1997) he performed in 13 states, Great Britain, France, Holland and Belgium. During his Ft. Campbell assignment, he studied conducting and band management with Chief Warrant Officer 4 (ret.) Jerry Standridge and tuba with Chief Warrant Officer 2 Thomas Hager. When not executing his musical duties, he trained on and became qualified to employ numerous light infantry weapons systems and was licensed to operate 5 types of military wheeled vehicles. In 1997, he transitioned into the 129th Army Band of the Tennessee Army National Guard, a group in which he still serves today. With the 129th, he is an associate conductor, assistant drum major and assistant transportation supervisor. He has received numerous awards and decorations, to include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Award (3rd Award), the Tennessee National Guard Achievement Award (2nd award) and the Army Expert Driver Badge. Academically, Gospodarek holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Tennessee and a Master of Education degree (Summa Cum Laude) from Tennessee State University. While at UT, he performed in the "Pride of the Southland" marching band, the Lady Vols basketball band, the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble and numerous other small groups. He studied conducting with Dr. Gary Sousa and tuba with W. Sande MacMorran. During his post-graduate studies in Knoxville, he expanded on and re-wrote a study investigating the incidence of tinnitus in musicians vs. non-musicians. With the assistance of Dr. David Royse, the study's findings were accepted and published in The Journal of Research in Music Education. Before accepting his post in Pulaski in 2002, he was the assistant director of bands at Central High School and Gresham Middle School in Knoxville. He is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, The Golden Key International Honor Society, was named a Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts "Outstanding Teacher" and is listed 3 times in the "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" publication. Since arriving in 2002, the Giles Co. band has placed over 100 students in regional and all-state jazz and concert bands, as well as numerous other clinic sessions. The band has been a consistent finalist in the Tennessee State AA Marching Band competition and the group has won numerous awards, superior ratings, divisions and overall championships. The concert band has earned numerous superior ratings in both Middle and West Tennessee festivals and the group has performed at the Tennessee Music Educators Association state concert festival; a prestigious, invitation only event. The Giles Co. band is also a 2003-2004 Tennessee Bandmasters Association Sweepstakes Award winner. He is married to the former Catherine Davis of Franklin and they have 2 daughters, Emma Charlotte and Madeleine Rose.
